Naplan writing response- Is it cruel to keep animals in cages?

Is it cruel to keep animals in cages?

I personally do not think that it is cruel to keep animals in cages. I think that in many cases keeping animals in cages can benefit the species in great ways. It may look cruel that some animals especially birds are kept in cages but I assure you that these animals will be looked after.

There are a few reasons for my response. Firstly think about the endangered species on the planet. Some species are crumbling and simply cannot survive to mate with their depleting numbers. There are many reasons for animals becoming endangered and without helping numbers grow in a safe environment these animals cannot survive. Animals such as the Asian Panda are kept in many Zoo’s and breeding facilities around the world just for the case of aiding their numbers back to a safe level. These cages that they are kept in are large enough for the certain animal and they are fed and looked after well enough. They then add an opposite sex animal into the cage and breeding begins which helps rise numbers.

Secondly animals that are kept as pets need to be kept within a cage. This is not for the human enjoyment but simply for the safety of the animal. If a bird was not in a cage within the house it would fly all over the place until eventually it hurt itself. Animal protection enforces a law that says that if you are too own an animal then you are to have a cage that is large enough for the animal. They also state that you must feed, bathe and give the animal plenty of water. This shows that in this cage the animal will be looked after well.

Lastly the food that is put on our tables daily is raised on a farm that is caged. Where would our eggs, meat and dairy products be without the livestock kept on the farms. These animals are fed well and looked after and then when they are ready in the way that they are harvested they are ready to be used. The chickens get given feed and lay their eggs in a specially designed coop, the farmers then go out and collect these eggs. The dairy products come from the cows which are milked from the udder and the milk is collected. The meat products come from almost all the livestock, the animals are humanely killed and their meat is shipped out.

After looking at my points I strongly believe that it is perfectly suitable to keep animals in cages, and I hope you do to. Animals are kept in cages for preservation, protection, safety, pet use and farm purposes.
Thank you
